I have always had a bit of a love affair with Joanna of Fig Tree & Co and her fabric collections, so when Avalon for Moda Fabrics was released it was a line I jumped at the chance to own. I’ve been sitting on this one, slowly adding pre-cuts and a few pieces of yardage to the collection waiting for that perfect project.
I tend to use pre-cuts in my patterns, making them easy and accessible for all levels of quilters, and taking away any hesitation that some can feel when picking fabrics for their quilt projects. There really isn’t a print in this line that I don’t love, and the colourways are perfectly subtle and sweet, yet strong in their overall appeal.
I love the vintage vibe of Joanna’s fabrics, and am dying to use these for a vintage-inspired quilt pattern. I’ve been scouring old quilt books and blocks for inspiration, and think I may have the perfect design to show off these gorgeous prints. Thinking cottage gardens, white picket fences and gorgeous girls in sunhats! This thinking won’t get me a quilt design drawn up, but it is fun nonetheless!
A Google search may bring up some online retailers with Avalon still available to buy; don’t forget also to check your local quilt stores or ask around. Its truly a beautiful collection, and one I’m really looking forward to finally using!
